UK universities could face fines or be taken to court over free speech failures.
Academics, students, or visiting speakers will be able to seek compensation through the UK courts if they suffer loss from a breach of the free speech duties under the proposed legislation. It is hoped the changes will ensure that university staff feel safe to put forward controversial or unpopular opinions without being at risk of losing their jobs.’Freedom of Expression’ should be the bedrock of all universities worldwide. It should be an important part/requirement of accreditation, and a UN requirement in order to use the word ‘university’.

When overseas students come to study in the ‘WEST’ – USA, UK, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, New Zealand, etc.
there should be a required orientation courses on ‘acculturation’ learning about democracy, history, freedoms, etc. This adds value to the ‘study abroad experience’ so they can take ‘home’ values that promote human rights, women’s rights, and freedoms that we value.
