The 2020 Skillman International Forum (#SIF2020) took place from December 10-11 with a packed agenda of international speakers and nearly 300 participants. It was organised by the Skillman Alliance, of which IVETA is a member.
Over two days, speakers from different industries, institutions, organisations and government bodies came to share their knowledge, experience, best practice, and ideas.

Then VP Europe, Dr Julian Ng, opened the Forum by introducing a slew of luminaries such as João Santos of the European Commission, Alexa Joyce (Director of Education Systems, Microsoft), Daniele Bassan (FIAT), Giovanni Crisona (Leader of Skillman) and Georgios Zisimos of the European Training Foundation.
He moderated a panel on accessibility and inclusivity in education on the 10th December by laying out some of the issues and challenges faced by TVET providers (and their students) not just in the 21st century, but also during an unprecedented pandemic. Panellists included IVETA president, Dr John Gaal, Dr Sandra Poirier (treasurer), and Vijeta Bhatia (general secretary).
Dr Gaal looked at how TVET might play a role in work-life balance, wellness, and well-being. Dr Poirier shared some of her experience and useful tips on teaching and learning during a pandemic. Vijeta Bhatia shared India’s challenge of providing access and inclusivity for education.

On the 11th December, Dr Julian Ng moderated a panel focusing on the professional development of TVET teachers. Panel members included Dr Andreas Saniter from ITB, University of Bremen, who shared with some findings from the TEACH-VET project. Prof Vitaly Kopnov from the Russian State Vocational and Pedagogical University shared with the audience about the Russian VET Development Strategy 2030.

Current VP (East and West Africa), Serumu Igberadja pled the case for a Multi- Stakeholders Engagement for Quality TVET in AfricaIVETA member, before Prof Urs Hauenstein showcased the Pro-VET teacher development project.
It was a wonderful opportunity for IVETA to gain more visibility globally. All in all, it was a superb (if tiring) event and congratulations to all those who took part.
